What an Early Action deadline is
Early Action is an early application that does not bind you. You apply in the autumn, hear back early, and still have until the spring to decide. Restrictive or Single-Choice Early Action is the stricter version: it does not bind you either, but it limits which other schools you may apply early to. Either way an early answer is worth having, because it tells you where you stand before the Regular Decision deadlines arrive.
If you miss one: You fall back to Regular Decision at that school. Nothing is lost outright, but you wait months longer for an answer and you lose the early read that would have shaped the rest of your list.

This is UGA's non-binding Early Action deadline, which means you can apply early, hear back early, and still compare offers from other schools before you commit. UGA's admissions office says Georgia residents typically get decisions in late November and out-of-state students in early to mid December. Applying EA also puts you in the earliest pool for merit scholarship consideration. You'll need your supporting materials in shortly after, by the October 29 materials deadline.
If you miss it: Miss it and you're pushed to Regular Decision on January 1, waiting until mid-March for a decision and entering a later, more crowded pool for merit scholarship money.

Georgia Tech Early Action 1 application deadline (Georgia students only)
This is Georgia Tech's Early Action 1 deadline, and it's open only to Georgia students, meaning you attend a Georgia high school or you're a Georgia resident living outside the state. It's non-binding, so you can still apply anywhere else and you're not committed if you get in. Applying by this date is also the only way to be considered for Georgia Tech's merit scholarships. Your supporting documents are due October 30 and self-reported test scores by November 16.
If you miss it: If you miss this you can still apply Regular Decision by January 6, but you permanently lose consideration for Georgia Tech's academic and merit-based scholarships, which require an Early Action application. Georgia Tech reviews EA and RD applications the same way, so the scholarship access is the real thing at stake.

Note that a denial in REA ends your chances for the year, so only apply early if your application is genuinely at its strongest by November 1.

If you miss it: Applying later pushes you to the February 1 round, where scholarship review only continues if money is still left.

This is the deadline most UF applicants use, and it doubles as the cutoff for merit scholarship consideration, which makes it the one to aim for even if you're not in a hurry. You'll get your decision by January 22, 2027. Supporting materials, meaning your STARS or transcript and your test scores, are due November 8.
If you miss it: Miss it and you drop to Regular Decision on January 15, which pushes your decision back to March 19. More costly: UF says merit scholarship consideration goes to students who apply by the November 1 priority deadline, so applying later can quietly take you out of the running for money you'd never know you lost.

Ohio State Early Action application deadline (Columbus campus)
This is Ohio State's nonbinding Early Action deadline for autumn 2027, and it's the one you should aim for. Your complete Common Application, the fee or fee waiver, transcripts and test scores all have to be in by 11:59 p.m. ET on November 1, 2026. Nonbinding means you can still say no if you're admitted, so there's essentially no downside to applying by this date. Ohio State still requires an ACT or SAT score, so plan to test by October 3 for the SAT or October 17 for the ACT.
If you miss it: Miss this and you drop into Regular Decision, which cuts you out of consideration for University merit scholarships, the Morrill Scholarship Program, the President's Ohio Scholarship Program, Stamps Eminence, Honors and Scholars, College of Engineering majors, and the College of Nursing Direct Admission Program. Those are worth real money and cannot be recovered later.

If you miss it: Miss it and Regular Decision on January 6 is still open, but you forfeit consideration for merit scholarships like the Stamps President's Scholars Program. For an out-of-state student facing a cost of attendance above $55,000 a year, that's a very expensive thing to give up.
