What an enrollment deposit deadline is
The enrollment deposit is how you accept an offer. It is a payment, usually a few hundred dollars, that holds your place and takes you off every other school's list. The national date for autumn entry is 1 May, and most colleges use it, but a school that admitted you early or off a waitlist can set its own. Colleges will waive or defer the deposit for a student who cannot pay it, and asking is routine.
If you miss one: A college can give your place to somebody on the waitlist. This is the one deadline on the list where the offer itself disappears rather than the money attached to it.

If UF admits you through binding Early Decision, this is your hard deadline to confirm enrollment in the Gator Portal and pay the non-refundable $200 tuition deposit. It lands in early January, roughly four months before the regular May 1 date, which catches people off guard. You also have to confirm and pay before you can register for Preview, UF's required freshman orientation.
If you miss it: This one is unusually harsh. UF states that an Early Decision admit who does not confirm by this date has their admission cancelled outright, not just delayed. You would lose your place at UF entirely, after having already withdrawn your other applications under the binding agreement.

Once you're admitted under a non-binding plan, you hold your seat by accepting the offer and paying a $500 nonrefundable deposit through your UM Applicant Portal. The standard date is May 1, but the date printed on your own admission letter is the one that actually governs, so read it. If money is the obstacle, UM has a deposit waiver you can request by email.
If you miss it: After the deposit date on your letter passes, UM only accepts deposits on a space available basis and will withdraw remaining offers once it hits its enrollment target, so you can lose your spot outright.

Decision Day: pick your college and pay the deposit
This is the day you choose. May 1 is the National Candidates Reply Date, the date most colleges use as the deadline to accept your offer and pay an enrollment deposit, which is what actually holds your seat. Being admitted does not reserve anything on its own. One important catch: colleges set their own reply dates, and since 2019 no organisation enforces May 1, so a school on your list may want an answer earlier or may give you longer. Check the date printed on each offer letter and go by that, not by this one. If you are still waiting on an appeal or a revised aid offer, ask for an extension in writing before the date rather than after it.
If you miss it: Miss the date on your offer letter and the college can give your place to somebody on the waitlist. A deposit paid before the reply date is usually refundable if you change your mind; after it, it almost never is. This is the last decision in the whole process that costs real money to get wrong.

Admitted Early Decision applicants pay much sooner, in early to mid January for ED I and late February for ED 2. You pay through the MyBU applicant portal, so make sure you can log in well before the day itself.
If you miss it: Your offer of admission can be withdrawn and your seat handed to a student on the waitlist, with no obligation on BU's part to reinstate you.

Once you're admitted for autumn 2027, you lock in your spot by paying a $100 nonrefundable acceptance fee by May 1, 2027. You pay it through your Applicant Center or by following the directions in your notice of admission. This is the national candidates' reply date, so you can hold your Ohio State offer while you compare other schools right up until then.
If you miss it: If you don't pay by May 1 you aren't enrolled, and Ohio State can release your place to someone else. You'd also lose your position in housing and orientation scheduling, which are tied to being a confirmed student.

Make sure your aid package has actually arrived before this date, which is exactly why the Feb. 1 aid priority date matters.
